Sealants and Fluorides

Sealants and Fluoride

We are fortunate that dental technology has provided ways we can reduce our patients’ development of cavities.

Sealants

Patients may be pleased to find that we have an effective method of sealing the surface of molars as the surface cracks in these teeth are very common places for cavities to start. With this coating in place, bacteria is less able to attack these surfaces, resulting in fewer cavities.

Fluoride

Fluoride is a mineral that has the quality of hardening tooth enamel, which then makes it harder for cavities to get started. Because we have found it to be beneficial for all our patients, we recommend the application of a coating of fluoride directly to the teeth. This treatment can be repeated every three, six or twelve months for maximum benefit.
