Root Canals

Root canal therapy is an effective way we can help a patient save a damaged tooth. When a tooth has been knocked out and replaced in its socket or if it has suffered from impact or deep decay, root canal therapy can help a patient retain the function of the tooth.

How We Do a Root Canal

  1. The top of the tooth is opened up.
  2. The soft tissue that fills the canal(s) and reaches to the root is cleaned out.
  3. The canal(s) are sterilized and filled with a flexible material.
  4. The tooth is closed up by placing a filling in the opening.
  5. A crown to be placed over the tooth is recommended to strengthen it.

After a Root Canal

With new root canal procedures, most people only experience mild-to-moderate discomfort and sensitivity for a few days. Follow your dentist’s recommendations for pain relief and preventing swelling. Many people feel well enough to return to work after a root canal.
